Electric vehicles in the USA

The United States has no single open, model-level database of registered vehicles. Washington State, however, publishes the most complete open EV registry in the country, offering a representative window into US electric vehicle adoption. As of today, 287,024 electric vehicles are registered there, of which 80.7% are fully electric (BEV) and 19.3% plug-in hybrids (PHEV).

About the data

These figures cover electric vehicles registered through the Washington State Department of Licensing and are updated continuously. Washington is used because it publishes the most complete open dataset, but it is not necessarily representative of the whole US: EV adoption is higher on the West Coast than inland. We will add more states and national figures as open sources become available.
